CRS Issues

Many issues in data product quality and analysis may arise due to improper CRS usage. Ensuring the proper datum, zone, and grid are selected for the data collection and processing region is necessary to ensure quality and accuracy.

To determine what zone a dataset is in (for Universal Transverse Mercator projections), users may search for UTM Zone maps, split into 60 longitudinal zones, and for GNSS post-processing purposes are then split into either Northern or Southern hemisphere.

A common sign in the processing logs that may be found when an improper zone is collected is:

Mean UTM grid convergence: ≤ ~ ±3

For less common datums, please conduct research to determine the best choice of zone for a particular collection location.
